Girona Gastrotrek

Girona is a city in Spain’s northeastern Catalonia region, beside the River Onyar. It’s known for its medieval architecture, walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) and the Roman remains of the Força Vella fortress. Landscaped gardens line the Passeig Arqueològic, a walkway following the Old Quarter’s medieval walls, which include watchtowers with sweeping views.

DAY 1 Arrive from UK and transfer via coach to the hotel in the Sau reservoir (approximately 90 mins) Depending on arrival time we might be able to stop for lunch (not included in price) at a restaurant en route.  We will arrive at hotel  Parador Vic-Sau*, and check into our rooms and we will then have free time to explore the surrounding area or just relax in the bar. Evening meal at hotel.  Unfortunately the pool will not be opened at this time of year.

*Hotel Parador Vic-Sau: The hotel is located in one of the loveliest parts of the Osona district, with the Guillerías Mountains in the distance and Sau Reservoir at its feet. The Parador reflects the traditional style of a Catalan country house. Its beautifully maintained garden, guest rooms with balconies and views of the exceptional landscape make this a wonderful place to get away from it all and relax.

DAY 2 Waking up in one of the most peaceful places in Catalonia we will then enjoy a hearty breakfast before starting our walk towards Sant Pere de Casserres Monastery, where we will have incredible views of the natural beauty of Sau Reservoir. We will then spend a little bit of time visiting the monastery before we head towards our chosen lunchtime restaurant, Fussimanya http://www.fussimanya.cat/. After lunch we will walk back to our hotel and we will have time to relax and unwind. Evening meal at hotel. Walking 10-12 km.

DAY 3 Breakfast at hotel and then transfer by coach to Girona (approximately 80 mins) Arrive at hotel, https://www.hotelciutatdegirona.com/es, and depending on time, we will check in or we will leave our bags in the hotel. We will the walk to a nearby restaurant  Cal Ros https://calros-restaurant.com/ for lunch and enjoy the local cuisine once more! After lunch we will go back to our hotel to enjoy the spa or just have a sleep! In the afternoon I have organised a walking tour of the city with a local guide, Girona history, myths, legends and game of thrones location (2 hours). The tour is free but the tour guide operates on a tip basis, so if you enjoy it you know what to do! Evening meal on your own. Free evening to explore Girona further.

DAY 4 After a lovely breakfast at the hotel we will walk east towards the Montnegre area of natural beauty making our way through the Catalan countryside towards our lovely lunchtime restaurant. TBC.

We will walk back to our hotel for another afternoon of relaxation. Evening meal on your own. Free evening.

 

DAY 5 Hotel pick up and transfer to Barcelona airport. Fly home. End of trip!
